Hola ~ from "Where Rainbows Wait for Rain" ~ in Big Bend, Texas on the banks of the Rio Grande ~ along the border of Old Mexico I hope everyone is having a wonderful morning ~ here in the desert country of Big Bend this day is off to a gorgeous start ~ crisp & cool before it warms up to the high nineties later today! Wherever you might be this morning I wish you a great one! And here is the next entry from Peter Koch's 1945 Diary of the Big Bend National Park in Texas (to read this diary from the start please refer to my blog post of September 3, 2009): Sunday April 15 Had an invitation from Cal Miller Supt. of Platte National Park - Oklahoma to visit with them, and picture the Park - Went toward the window and photographed the children on horses and burro. On way down saw the pair of ant woodpeckers near the nest tree - I believe they have completed the nest. The nest in cholla is still unoccupied and though the cactus wren cries an alarm every time I get near the place no eggs have been laid that I could find - in any nest - We still hear the oriole every day - morning and evening seems like he will have his nest above our trailer although just as often he is heard below - the flycatcher is feeding young in the storeroom since last Wednesday - April 11th. End of this day's diary post -

Hola! Good to see you! Hope you are having as beautiful a morning as the folks in this little village I just finished painting ~ a little village in Old Mexico ~ this piece is titled "Mexico Sunrise" and it is available now on ebay ~ where you will also see lots more photos showing all the intricate detail! And here is the next entry from Peter Koch's 1945 Diary of the Big Bend National Park (to read this diary from its start please refer back to my blog post of September 3, 2009) April Friday 13th Went up to Laguna and from there to a point about three miles down to canyon of the boot springs. The total hile of twelve miles was pretty hard and my records for the trip include many blue throat hummers. The last Sunday that I spent on Laguna we failed to see or hear a single one of the birds now there are 4 in a single group in the narrow gap before arriving at Laguna from the Basin. Also recorded three wood peckers that looked spectacular in the dead limbs of a pine - black except for red spot on nape of head - wheat breast streaked with black and red on throat (of male?) with white ring around eye - Identify as Anteating Mearns Woodpecker - found one next in lower Basin and another below Cabin at Laguna. Here is the next entry from photographer/lecturer Peter Koch's 1945 Diary from the Big Bend National Park, Texas (and if you're just joining the reading of this diary please refer back to the post of September 3, 2009) April 11th Spent most of the day working on the boat and watching the orioles. In the evening we went to Dr. Maxwells home and after cocktails and meeting with the visitors - the director - and later joined the entire group at a dinner - The first news of Pres. Franklin Roosevelt came in on short wave and the sudden death was a shock to all. During the evening I had a chance to discuss the making of a picture for the Park - Drury agreed on the essentials - and a discussion of the details will no doubt follow. We listened to Newton Drury address the Park directors and following that we went to trailer to discuss the many events - of the past two days. End of this diary post for this day And please take a moment before leaving to check out my latest painting titled "A State of Mind" ~ it is a church from La Linda, Mexico ~ -

Hola! I hope you had a great day & it's good to see you! I had a wonderful day working here in my estudio on my next Don Quixote piece ~ a coastal setting ~ which would be a nice complementary piece to go with this one I recently finished! It's still in the early stages so it'll be a while yet before I share any photos! Here in the Big Bend Country it is so nice and cool this evening ~ we had 1/10 inch of rain which we so needed! And the rain helped ease the hot temps we'd been having. The Ghost Mountains (the Chisos) over in the Park were so beautiful all day ~ misty clouds hovering over like a soft white cloak....it was really cool up at the Lodge no doubt! Such a higher elevation there than here in the desert lowlands along the river. In closing, here's the Artist Quote for the day: The artist has a special task and duty: the task of reminding men of their humanity and the promise of their creativity. -- Lewis Mumford HUGE!~Don Quixote~40x32~Paintings~MeXiCaN FoLk ArT~RoMy Southwest ~ Mexican Folk Art Painting ~ RoMy Title: "Don Quixote de la Mancha" Size: 40"x32" ~ AWESOME SIZE CANVAS!!! Hola! Muchas Gracias for stopping by my Terlingua Art Studio near Terlingua Ghost Town & Big Bend National Park (Texas) along the border of Old Mexico! For your consideration today I am offering this original painting: DESCRIPTION Don Quixote! The most beloved & famous character created by Miguel de Cervantes. This novel is considered by many critics as being the greatest ever written! Alonso Quijana (Don Quixote) is an elderly sixteenth-century Spanish gentleman who sets out with his "squire" Sancho Panza on a mission of high adventure! In this painting Don Quixote (with his faithful horse Rozinante by his side) is prepared to attack the windmills which he believes to be "ferocious giants!" I just love Don Quixote & this piece was such fun to paint ~ I may do several more of him! Just thinking of his adventures makes we want to paint them all! This very memorable quote of his is one of my favourites (maybe yours, too!): Don Quixote to Sancho: There is a world outside La Mancha. There is a great elsewhere, my neighbor. And there we may both find fame and fortune. Sancho Panza: How much does honor pay by the hour? This is a VERY LARGE work of art ~ almost 4 feet high! And nearly 3 feet wide! It measures 40"x32" and will spendidly decorate any wall on which it is placed ~ whether it is in your casa or place of work. Also, there are so many colours in this piece (turquoise, blue, purple, gold, coral, red, desert tan and yellow) that it will easily go with most any colour scheme! What a great opportunity this is for the right buyer to add to his or her collection of Mexican Folk Art! And a perfect time to start a collection (if you haven't already) as Mexican Folk Art is quite popular now ~ and increasing in value with time. Please Note: Colours may vary according to different computer monitors. ABOUT THIS PIECE This Mexican Folk Art painting is an ORIGINAL work of art, brightly painted with acrylics on gallery-wrapped, professionally stretched canvas measuring 40" x 32". This premier frame is also cross braced and has sturdy, precisely tailored corners and the canvas is tight with clean, staple-free edges ~ all four sides are painted ~ this piece can be beautifully displayed as quickly as you receive it!. There is a hanger on the back - when you receive this artwork all you need to do is place it in your special area! Also, this piece has been finished with several coats of non-yellowing acrylic varnish to protect and enhance its beauty for many years to come. ABOUT THE ARTIST The front of this painting is signed by the artist and the back is also signed, dated (2009) and titled. By the way the artist "Romy" - that's me! I live on the border between Texas and Old Mexico ~ near the Big Bend National Park ~ a few miles from Terlingua Ghost Town ~ and I love the history and culture of this area ~ a raw, still quite primitive land ~ a desert land where "rainbows wait for rain." The last few photos in this description show my outdoor studio which faces Santa Elena Canyon and the Rio Grande, the natural border between Old Mexico and Texas ~ and it is from this primitive setting ~ 80 miles from town ~ that I find most of my inspiration for painting. Hola! This "Desert Serenade" is just one of the Southwest ~ Mexican Folk Art paintings I have available right now on ebay! I hope you will like it! I always love to paint the pretty senoritas! And the desert! To me the desert is such a magical and wonderful place to live. I am always in awe of the desert wildlife and desert plants that can not only survive ~ but thrive! ~ in the desert. Even in the hottest days of relentless summer heat the jack rabbits, the roadrunners, the coyotes, the javelina and the snakes ~ just to name a few of the inhabitants here ~ still go about their business of simply enjoying being alive! The rabbits eagerly chase one another like children playing, the male roadrunner pursues the female with the love offering of a tasty lizard dangling from his long beak, the coyotes sing till the wee hours of the morn, a lone javelina finds his way through the watergap in my fence to graze on this side of the border, and the snakes gather with all these critters at the dutch ovens I keep filled with fresh water for all to partake of. Some folks think the desert is hell ~ others think it is heaven. I call it heaven! And I believe all the critters that live here call it heaven, too! But it is really all a matter of perspective. All of us have our own "viewfinder" that colours the world in which we live.... Well enough rambling! Please take a moment to see my "Desert Serenade" and in closing here's the Artist Quote for the day: Art, like morality, exists in drawing the line somewhere. -- G.K. Chesterton "Desert Serenade" is a beautiful blending of southwest colour ~ gorgeous mountains ~ and tiny stars ~ in shades of blue and turquoise, and just a sliver of a pink moon. Sitting in the windowsill is a beautiful senorita wearing a lovely dress in a soft shade of lavender ~ and a small cross necklace. Beside her is a gorgeous pot of calla lillies. Outside beneath the moon and stars, next to the saquaro and prickly pear cactus ~ a gold colored coyote serenades the senorita ~ and the moon ~ with a song. -
